How this works

The finder tries three things in order. First, whether the address is already published somewhere on the company's own site — if so, you get it with the page it came from. Second, the domain's inferred address pattern, applied to the name you gave. Third, population priors, which are the formats companies use most often.

Candidates are verified over SMTP and the first confirmed one wins. Only a few are probed, because each probe spends real sending capacity — a finder that brute-forces twenty guesses per lookup gets its IPs blocked and then returns nothing for anyone.

Pattern confidence comes from agreement and sample size. Three addresses that agree is evidence; one address is a hint. Reporting a single sample as certainty is exactly how a finder confidently returns the wrong address for a whole company.

How do you find someone's email address from their name?

First we look for the address already published on the company's own site. If it is not there, we infer the domain's address format from addresses that are — for example {first}.{last} — apply it to the name, and verify the result against the mail server before returning it.

How accurate is an email finder?

Accuracy depends on whether the address was found or generated. A published address that verifies is close to certain. A generated one is only as good as the pattern behind it, which is why we report the pattern, how many samples it was inferred from, and whether the result verified.

What is an email pattern?

The format a company uses for its addresses — {first}.{last}@company.com, {f}{last}@company.com, and so on. Most organisations use exactly one, which is what makes finding an unpublished address possible at all.

Why does it matter where the name came from?

Because "the publisher labelled this address as Jane Doe in their structured data" and "we split jdoe@ and guessed" are very different claims. We report which one you got. Ambiguous local parts are deliberately not attributed at all — a wrong name is worse than no name.

Why did the finder return nothing?

Because it had no pattern it trusted enough. A domain that publishes no attributable addresses gives nothing to infer from, and a confident guess in that situation is how finders return the same wrong address for everyone at a company.
