We charge nothing for a retryable unknown either — but a catch-all or a full mailbox is charged here, because the probe did establish something real about the domain. Theirs is the more generous rule and it is worth saying so plainly.

What gets better
A source page for every discovered address. Each one carries the URL it was published on, how it was extracted, when it was first seen and whether it is still on that page today. It is the question a prospect asks when they reply "where did you get this".
The SMTP evidence, not a summary of it. The reply code, the RFC 3463 enhanced code, the MX host that answered and the reason the verdict was reached — on every result, including the ones you would rather not have got.
Confidence that opens. Every score on a discovered contact reports the weighted factors behind it, including whether the publisher named the person in schema.org markup or whether we split the local part and inferred it. No competitor distinguishes those two.
What gets worse
- Inbox placement testing. We do not have it and are not building it.
- Blacklist monitoring as a product. The free blacklist checker looks up a host on request; it does not watch one for you.
- Data appending — adding names and locations to addresses you already hold.
- A much wider free-tool suite, including DKIM, DMARC, SPF and BIMI generators.
- Their no-charge rule on catch-all results.

What is the best ZeroBounce alternative?
It depends what you use it for. For verification plus finding addresses with a citation on each one, VerifyInbox covers the ground at a lower entry price and with the SMTP evidence attached. For inbox placement testing, blacklist monitoring or data appending, it does not cover it at all and you should stay.
How do I export my data from ZeroBounce?
Download the validated file from your validation history. Every column comes across. Upload it here, map the email column, and your original columns come back alongside our verdicts in the export.
Will my ZeroBounce credits transfer?
No. Credits are not transferable between vendors. The free tier is 100 credits a month, renewing, with no business-domain requirement, so you can check a few hundred addresses against results you already have before paying anything.
Will my results match ZeroBounce’s?
Mostly, because both run a real SMTP probe. Where they differ it will usually be a catch-all domain: ZeroBounce reports catch-all as a status of its own, and we report it as unknown with the reason catch_all. Same finding, different label — and neither of us can tell you whether that particular mailbox exists.
Do my credits expire?
Plan credits are granted per period and expire at the end of it. Credit packs last 365 days from purchase. The free tier renews every month. ZeroBounce states that credits do not expire while the subscription is active.
