Roundup

Best email verification services, honestly ranked

Seven criteria, each checkable on the vendor's own site. We are absent from four of them, and that is the point.

The criteria, before the rankings

This search result is entirely vendor-owned listicles, every one of which ranks its own author first. So here is the method, stated before anything is ranked, and the places where following it puts someone else ahead of us.

  • Every claim is read off the vendor’s own page and linked, with the date it was read. No claim in this page comes from a review site, a press release or another roundup.
  • No accuracy ranking. Several vendors publish an accuracy figure. Nobody, ourselves included, has published a benchmark an outsider could reproduce, so ranking on those numbers would rank on marketing.
  • No ratings and no star scores. There are no VerifyInbox reviews, so there is nothing to aggregate — and a self-issued rating inside a roundup about other companies is misleading review markup, which three vendors in this set ship.
  • Criteria, not one to ten. There is no single scalar that orders these products, and inventing one would hide the trade-offs rather than show them.
  • Where we lose, we are left out of the list. Four of the seven sections below do not include VerifyInbox at all.

Reviewed 11 September 2026. Prices and product sets in this category move quickly; this page carries a visible review date because it ages faster than anything else on the site.

If an inconclusive result must not be billed

Every verifier returns results it could not settle. What differs — and what almost nobody puts on a pricing page — is whether you pay for them. On a list with many catch-all domains this is the largest single difference in real cost between two vendors quoting the same rate.

  1. 1

    Kickbox

The broadest rule published by anyone here: "If we can't provide a definitive result to you, we'll refund the credit." That covers catch-all domains.

  2. 2

    MillionVerifier

"Full refund on any email we can't verify with certainty," stated on their homepage.

  3. 3

    Bouncer

No charge for unknown results, and none for duplicates within a list.

  4. 4

    ZeroBounce

Unknown results and duplicate removals both cost zero credits.

Where we land. We are not in this list and should not be. A retryable unknown is free here, but a catch-all domain or a full mailbox is charged, because the probe did establish something real. Four vendors above have a more generous rule and it is worth money on the right list.

If credits must not expire

A credit that expires is a different product from one that does not, and the difference does not appear in a price per thousand. It matters most to the buyer whose volume is lumpy — a quarterly clean, a list bought in one go.

  1. 1

    Bouncer

Credits never expire, stated on the pricing page.

  2. 2

    Emailable

"Credits never expire," and unused subscription credits roll over.

  3. 3

    MillionVerifier

"Buy credits once. Use them forever."

  4. 4

    Clearout

Unused credits roll over and never expire, per their own FAQ.

  5. 5

    DeBounce

Credits never expire, with no subscription required.

Where we land. Nor this one. Plan credits are granted per billing period and expire at the end of it, and credit packs last a year from purchase. That is the worst position in this category and it is a deliberate consequence of selling a monthly plan rather than prepaid blocks.

If you need to find addresses, not only check them

Most of this category cleans a list you already have. If the list also needs building, a verifier alone is two vendors — and the thing worth comparing is not whether an address was found but what comes back with it.

  1. 1

    Hunter.io

The largest index of the finders here, built since 2015, and their API returns a sources array of up to twenty URLs with extracted_on and last_seen_on dates.

  2. 2

    VerifyInbox

A citation on every address — the URL, how it was extracted, when it was last seen and whether it is still on that page — plus how the name was attributed. The index is far smaller than Hunter’s, which is why they are listed first.

  3. 3

    Clearout

Email Finder, Prospect and a LinkedIn extension, plus phone verification nobody else here offers.

  4. 4

    Snov.io

A finder inside a full sales suite, with sending and a light CRM.

  5. 5

    DeBounce

Email Finder and Lead Finder alongside the core validation.

If the free tier has to be enough to evaluate properly

A trial that excludes the API is not a trial of an API product. A one-time grant is fine for a single decision and useless for continuous verification.

  1. 1

    Emailable

250 credits, the largest one-time grant here — best if you are making one decision.

  2. 2

    VerifyInbox

100 credits every month, renewing, on any domain, with the API, bulk and export included. Smaller up front, larger from the third month on.

  3. 3

    Hunter.io

50 credits a month, renewing — 100 verifications at half a credit each.

  4. 4

    ZeroBounce

100 credits refilling monthly, but their pricing page states it requires a business or premium domain, so a personal address cannot start.

  5. 5

    Snov.io

50 credits every 30 days, but the trial excludes the API, bulk search and bulk verification — the parts a developer came to test.

If price per address at volume is the deciding factor

For a single large clean, the published ladder is most of the decision. These are the vendors whose full ladders were readable in the served HTML.

  1. 1

    MillionVerifier

$89 for 50,000 — $1.78 per thousand, the lowest per-address rate we could verify anywhere. It was also the only tier readable without their calculator, so treat it as one confirmed point rather than a full ladder.

  2. 2

    Bouncer

$400 for 100,000 and $2,000 for a million, published in full across eight rows.

  3. 3

    Kickbox

$500 for 100,000 and $2,999 for a million, across thirteen published rows — the most complete public price table in this category.

Where we land. We publish no price above the Scale plan, so at a hundred thousand addresses the cheapest single option here is a credit pack and it costs more than any of the three above. If cost per address at volume is the question, the answer is one of them. The arithmetic is in the pricing comparison rather than asserted here.

If you need deliverability tooling beyond verification

Inbox placement testing, blocklist monitoring and authentication checks are a different product from verification, and three vendors here sell both.

  1. 1

    ZeroBounce

Inbox placement testing, blacklist monitoring, email server testing and data appending.

  2. 2

    Bouncer

The Deliverability Kit, plus Shield for validating at signup and Toxicity Check.

  3. 3

    Emailable

Inbox Reports and blacklist monitors, alongside the widest integration catalogue here.

Where we land. None of that exists here and none of it is planned. The free tools check SPF, DKIM, DMARC and a blocklist on request; they do not monitor anything for you, and a page that implied otherwise would produce a refund request.

If the result has to explain itself

What you can do with a verdict depends on how much of the evidence survives into the response. A single label is a decision someone else made for you.

  1. 1

    VerifyInbox

Three verdicts, a reason code on every one, the three-digit SMTP reply, the RFC 3463 enhanced code, the MX host that answered, and whether the condition was transient.

  2. 2

    ZeroBounce

Seven statuses with a documented sub-status on each — the most granular published vocabulary of anyone else here.

  3. 3

    Hunter.io

Six statuses plus nine check booleans, including accept_all and block.

Where that leaves VerifyInbox

Second on finding addresses, behind an index built since 2015. Second on the free tier, behind a larger one-time grant. Absent from the four categories above where we are genuinely beaten: inconclusive-result billing, credit expiry, price at volume and deliverability tooling.

First on one thing, and it is the thing this product is for: how much of the evidence survives into the result. Three verdicts rather than a fourth bucket that collapses unrelated problems, a reason code on every one, the SMTP reply and enhanced code attached, and a citation on every address found. That is the trade, stated plainly enough that you can decide it is the wrong one.

Detail per vendor is in the head-to-head comparisons, and the numbers are in the pricing comparison.

Choosing a verification service

What is the best email verification service?

It depends which of six things you are optimising for, which is why this page ranks inside stated criteria rather than one to ten. The two questions that separate these vendors more than any feature are whether an inconclusive result is charged and whether credits expire — and we lose both.

Which email verification service is the most accurate?

Nobody knows, including the vendors. Several publish an accuracy percentage; none has published a benchmark an outsider could reproduce — the same list, the same day, the methodology stated. We have not published one either, which is why there is no accuracy ranking on this page.

Is there a free email verification service?

Every vendor here has a free grant. The distinction that matters is whether it renews and what it excludes: Emailable gives the largest one-time grant at 250 credits, ours is 100 a month renewing with the API included, and Snov states that its trial excludes the API and bulk verification.

How do I choose an email verification service?

Verify the same few hundred addresses at two vendors and compare where they disagree — it will almost always be catch-all domains. Then check the two things that are not on the pricing page: whether you are billed for results they could not establish, and whether unused credits expire.

Test the disagreements

100 credits a month, free and renewing. Re-verify a few hundred addresses you already have verdicts for and read the reason on the ones that differ.
